Fox News Commentator Slams Zuckerberg's AI 'Friend' Plan, Stresses: Humans Crave Real Connection!

Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo Pushed back against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s comments this week, suggesting that AI chatbots could help address the growing loneliness epidemic in the country.

On Friday’s broadcast of The Ingraham Angle , Arroyo dismissed the idea that artificial intelligence could replace human interaction, telling host Laura Ingraham that “people need human contact” and calling AI companions “bots.”

Zuckerberg expressed these views during a podcast conversation with Dwarkesh Patel.

In the interview, the Meta CEO mentioned that the typical American has less than three close friendships and indicated that individuals desire deeper social relationships. He proposed that artificial intelligence might assist in bridging this void.

“There’s the stat that I always think is crazy — the average American has fewer than three friends,” Zuckerberg said. “The average person wants more connectivity.”

Ingraham aired a clip of Zuckerberg discussing the potential for people to use AI for social interaction and suggesting that digital tools should be integrated more closely with the physical world.

She said she found the interview “interesting” and noted Zuckerberg’s recognition of the importance of physical connection.

Arroyo rejected the idea that artificial intelligence could be a substitute for human friendship.

Ingraham stated, "I thought it was quite an intriguing conversation, however, at the very least, he recognized the significance of tangible interactions, Raymond." Arroyo responded accordingly.

I understand your point, Laura, but he's proposing a blend between the artificial intelligence realm and our actual lives because AI has become so sophisticated. However, I completely oppose this idea. Humans require physical interaction, they crave touch, they need genuine emotional support, and they rely on authentic connections. Moreover, AI can never abruptly intervene and advise, "Hey, you've strayed too far from reality."

Take action right away. I'm concerned for your well-being. An artificial intelligence won’t be able to do something like that. You understand that having an AI companion is similar to owning a pet rock as a pet. I apologize. These aren’t Laura. Now they’re simply – that’s a robot. It doesn’t count as a genuine individual."

Arroyo concluded the segment saying, "I hope friendship and sex aren’t part of the AI agenda, but that’s just my view. Do as you please; I'm signing off."
